Before the scanning procedure is performed, a special type of gel is applied onto the skin to ensure that sound waves can be transmitted more efficiently into the body. In order to be a competent and proficient ultrasound technician, one will have to undergo a formal training program. The most common route to this career is a 2-year Associates Degree program, although a more comprehensive 4-year Bachelors Degree training can yield better results.
